Product information

Love them or...love them. Conceived by Peruvian designer Vacide Erda Zimic, these original napkin rings are made from 100% wool felt by-product from Andean hats. The process of production, sewing and gluing of these pieces is completely handmade by the artisans of the Zimic Studio. Easy to clean with a wet cloth, no harsh cleansers. Use lint brush when needed.

Environmental and social information

Loop napkin rings have been produced by Studio Zimic for DIGS, a New York company dedicated to the fusion of design with the principles of sustainability and fair trade. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation, DIGS has a number of commitments regarding their work and their relationships with suppliers and customers, such as payment of fair wages in local context, promotion of cooperative work, providing funding and support technical and respect for the cultural identity of the producers, and transparency in accounting. DIGS has a large number of environmental certifications in the U.S. context (Green America, Sustainable Furnishings Council, Forestry Stewardship Council, etc.) and has been collaborating for ten years with the organization Aid to Artisans, dedicated to improving working conditions and economic viability of artisans in developing countries.

Based in Lima, Zimic Studio is a design company created by Vacide Erda Zimic. She employs local artisans and has a special interest in recycling and the recovery of discarded tissues and cloths. Her products are the result of a clear commitment to sustainability, manual work and creative design.

About the designer: Vacide Erda Zimic

Vacide Erda Zimic was born in Lima, Peru, in 1974. Her career started as an artist studying painting in the Fine Arts Dept. at The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. After graduating, she experimented in set design, cabinet design, photography and Illustration, before she felt the desire to devote herself to product design. In 2001, she started her own studio and workshop, employing local artisans. She uses recycled and reclaimed scrap fabrics like felt, cotton, alpaca and carpet; combining them to make objects using different processes such as sewing, rolling, sticking and cutting.
